The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has awarded C3M a contract for the Blue Line Rail Power Systems Upgrades project in the Washington, DC Metro Area.
C3M is responsible for supplying and installing electrical equipment at 7 Tie-Breaker Stations (TBS) and 7 Traction Power Sub-Stations (TPSS) on the Metrorail system's Blue Line for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. The project includes replacing medium voltage AC switchgear, rectifier transformers, rectifiers, DC switchgear, bus duct, AC and DC panelboards, transformers, voltage regulators, battery systems, supervisory and control data acquisition (SCADA) systems including remote terminal units (RTU), human machine interfaces (HMI), network switches, and fiber optic cabling, and lighting fixtures. New concrete pads and insulating flooring will also be installed for the new equipment. Throughout the project, the C3M team will use temporary cabling and equipment to allow revenue service to operate without interruption while existing equipment is replaced. C3M will also oversee the replacement of 34 rectifier transformers and 8 auxiliary transformers located at TPSS at multiple locations also on the Blue Line.
Three TPSS were replaced in parallel during a 3-month shutdown during the Summer of 2019, a feat never before achieved on the WMATA system.
Construction is underway and completion is slated for December 2021.
