C3M installed equipment upgrades to the Seattle Center Monorail’s Electrical Rooms and systems at Seattle Center and Westlake Center Monorail Stations. The historic monorail, which opened in 1962 for the Century 21 Exposition, a World’s Fair held at the current site of Seattle Center, supports an annual ridership of around 2 million people. The fleet consists of two original trains constructed in 1961 by Alweg, the manufacturer of the original Disney Monorail trains, which have served the line since its opening. The work included the replacement of medium and low voltage electrical equipment (rectifier, transformer, switchgear, battery chargers, uninterruptible power supplies, annunciator panels, etc.), installation and wiring of equipment, and testing and commissioning. Additionally, new HVAC equipment, intrusion alarm system, fire alarm system, SCADA system, and emergency lighting were added in the electrical rooms at both stations.
C3M developed and implemented a plan to temporarily relocate the Seattle Center Station DC switchgear to a temporary location to allow both substations to be renovated in parallel reducing the impact to the operational system.
